What is Praia de Iracema like?
At just 37 hectares, Praia de Iracema is one of Fortaleza’s smallest neighbourhoods, yet it holds major state cultural venues: the Centro Dragão do Mar, Ceará’s public library and Porto Iracema das Artes. It was once called Praia do Peixe and, after a public contest in 1925, took the name of Iracema, the heroine of José de Alencar’s novel.
In the 1990s it was the city’s bohemian quarter, full of bars, street art and music. Spend the afternoon in the museums and walk to the Ponte dos Ingleses for sunset.

- Museums and culture, often free
- Sunsets over the sea
- Bars and going out
- Walking to Centro and Meireles
⚠️ Less good for
