There is more to Fortaleza than the beach
There is a piece of Scotland in Fortaleza: the iron frame of the city’s grand theatre was partly made in Glasgow. That is the kind of story you only find away from the beach, in the old centre where the city began at a 17th-century fort, with the cathedral and the Dragão do Mar cultural centre a short walk away.
Opening times and prices come from each place’s own official website wherever one exists, with the date we read it. Where there is no official source we name the newspaper and its date. If nobody publishes something, we leave it blank instead of guessing.

What the Portuguese on the ticket desk means
The official pages are in Portuguese. These are the words you will meet, and one rule that matters for your wallet.
Five words for the box office
Inteira = full price. Meia = half price. Bilheteria = box office. Agendamento = booking or appointment. Sympla = the Brazilian website that sells many of these tickets.
Who pays "meia"
Brazilian law gives half price to students with a Brazilian student card, people over 60, people with disabilities and young people on a low income. A foreign student card does not count. Over 60? Ask at the desk which ID they accept.
✅ Lei 12.933/2013 (meia-entrada), PlanaltoIron from Glasgow
Parts of the iron structure of Theatro José de Alencar came from Glasgow, and the original window glass from Germany.
