The backlands, a short walk from the sea
Dragão do Mar has two museums: contemporary art (MAC) and this one, about the culture of Ceará. From the red footbridge it is a four-minute walk.
Its best-known show is Vaqueiros, about the vaqueiro, the leather-clad cattle herder of the sertão, Ceará’s dry interior. O POVO reports that it opened on 28 April 1999 on the lower floor and holds more than 130 pieces: leather household objects, photographs of old mansions in the town of Icó and a mosaic of over twenty faces.
✅ Good for
- Anyone curious about life in the interior of Ceará
- A cool hour indoors in the heat of the day
- Pairing with an afternoon at Dragão do Mar
⚠️ Less good for
- Mondays and Tuesdays: closed
- If you only want art: the MAC next door is the place
Everything for your visit
