About Museu do Humor Cearense

A museum that wants you to laugh

The Museu do Humor Cearense opened in April 2014 in Benfica, beside the Teatro Chico Anysio (founded 1991). Both are named after Chico Anysio, one of Brazil’s best-known comedians, who died in 2012.

Inside are his bronze bust, his 1985 Troféu Imprensa award and his urn, plus a library of more than 3,000 books on humour (official site). Since January 2025 there is also the Risódromo, a mock village with little houses, a tiny cinema, a jail, a church and a corner shop, used for shows and filming.

✅ Good for

  • Getting to know Brazilian comedy and TV
  • A Monday afternoon, when many museums are closed
  • The 12th of the month: free show and visit

⚠️ Less good for

  • Mornings: only for booked groups
  • If you speak no Portuguese: the jokes are all in Portuguese
Tip: Come on the 12th of a month for the "Show do Dia 12", with a free show and free visit. The date was chosen because 12 April is Brazil’s National Humorist Day.
